Christians can’t be rich! Or can they?

I remember reading a Instagram post a while back, by a young Christian woman, stating Christians aren’t suppose to be rich. I admit that the post bothered me. Why? Well, I don’t agree with the statement. I know that not everyone who’s Christian are going to be rich, but to say that just because we’re Christians, we aren’t suppose to be rich. Why? One of the scriptures posted to support her case, was, “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” -Matthew 19:24. Do you see anything in this scripture stating Christians can’t be rich or do you see in this scripture, that it’s just stating how it may be more challenging for someone who’s rich to enter into the Kingdom of God?

I’m a Christian, that believes we can be rich and still love Jesus, still win souls, still serve others, still give to charity and the list goes on. A Christian being rich, doesn’t have to get in the way of  our relationship with Jesus, unless we allow it to. I’m not rich, but hey, if that’s God’s plans for my husband and I, I won’t say, no thank you Jesus. We as Christians are suppose to desire what Jesus desires for us and in God’s word it says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11 What if one of those plans God has for you, is to be rich? Just saying.

However, I do believe that being rich may not be for everyone because some people may get caught up in allowing the money to make them, rather than making the money. Also some may walk away from their relationship with God and live a life that’s all about pleasing their flesh. However, please note, that this doesn’t mean Christians can’t be rich. If the Lord hand picks you and blesses you to be rich, don’t see it as a curse, see it as a blessing. God word says,A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.”-Proverbs 13:22  and God word also says, “But whoso hath this world’s good, and see his brother have need, and shut up his bowels [of compassion] from him, how dwell the love of God in him?- 1 John 3:17” Being a Christian that’s rich God can use you just like he uses those who aren’t.

In closing, the problem and sin isn’t in being rich but what we choose to do with our wealth and riches. One of my favorite scriptures “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prosper.” -3 John 2 When I look at the scripture it’s not saying anything about being rich but it talks about prospering, which means to be successful and God wants us to be successful in every area of our lives but of-course by following Him as He leads.
